| Lincoln was born on 12th February 1809, into a poor family
of Kentucky (u.s.a.). His father’s name was Thomas Lincoln. Lincoln’s
early life was full of hardships., he was a bright student but could not
study much for lack of means. Lincoln became a store clerk and later qualified
himself to be a lawyer, and also started legal practice. in 1847, he was
elected for the American congress and in 1861, he was elected President
of U.S.A. as a candidate of the Republican Party. In 1863, he proclaimed
the freedom of the slaves, declaring the war aims of preserving a nation
conceived in liberty and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created
equal and ensured “government of the people, by the people, for the
people”. In 1864, Lincoln was assassinated by an insane actor when
Lincoln and his wife were watching a theatrical performance in Washington. |
