Sir Lawrence again conveys in this work of his, how the nobility went about their daily routine. The exquisite marble structures lend a good deal of aristocracy to the scene.

The picture is probably of an ante room in a bath or dressing parlour. A nude lady is tying her footwear. A lady is standing in the foreground while some ladies are clambering up the stairs. Events involving women, sometimes nude, seem to dominate Sir Lawrence’s works.This is another ethical but subtle nude painting by Sir Lawrence done as oil on panel in 1886 and is in the collection of Mr and Mrs Joseph.M. Tenenbaum,Toronto, Canada.
