Silver Favourites - Famous Art work & Drawing by Sir
Lawrence Alma-Tadema
In this painting too Sir Lawrence has projected the ‘easygoing’
lives of the aristocracy, notably the females. The moneylender was very
much a part of the Italian scene. Usury was a regular phenomenon. High
income from interest accruals made the rich lazy and indulgent.
The marble work shows the setting to be in Italy.
Two girls are relaxing and looking at silver colored fish in a small
pond. A girl is standing with a container of fish food probably. She drops
some of this into the water for the fish assembled there. This painting
of Sir Lawrence dates to 1903 and is oil on panel kept now in the City
of Manchester Art Galleries, Manchester,UK.
