| During this period, Darwin studied different living species
in different regions and put his observations in his diary. When he reached
South America, he compared living species available there with that of Europe.
He thus gathered a wealth of details about flowers and animals, rocks and
fossils. Darwin, in fact, tried to connect the loose ends in the theory
of the evolution of man. In 1859, Darwin published his most famous book,
Origin of Species. The book was so popular that all the published copies
were sold out the very first day. His second book Descent of Man was published
twelve years later. His other work includes The Preservation of Favored
