Chiang Kai-Shek was one of the most prominent nationalist leaders and
politicians of his country. He was also an able military general who succeeded
in unifying China by suppressing rebellions. He took part in the 1911
Chinese revolution and was the chief of staff to the great revolutionary
leader and the first President of China Dr. Sun Yat-sen who had founded
Kuomintang or Nationalist Party in 1891. After his death in 1925, Chiang
Kai-Shek became the chief of this paty. In 1928, he established a new
national Government of China with its capital at Canton. Chioang staunchly
opposed the Communists who were gradually gaining strength in China.
