Like Lala Lajpat Rai, Bal Gangadhar Tilak believed that militant methods were necessary to get rid of the British rule. Tilak’s principle was militancy, not mendicancy. Bal Gangadhar Tilak was the first Indian leader to give the slogan, “Freedom is my birthright and I shall have it. “ For his anti-imperialistic activities, he was sent to jail many times. In 1908, he was given 6 years rigorous imprisonment for his activities against the British ruled and was to sent to Mandlay jail
